At Town East Animal Hospital, we strive for a warm and friendly relationship with you and your pet. This page highlights the staff - our training, experience and dedication to veterinary medicine.
Dr. Airhart was born in McKinney, Texas and was reared on a farm in Collin County. For a person with his varied interests a farm is the perfect place to grow up, surrounded by nature from the very big to the very small, all sorts of animals, machinery, crops and all the wonders little boys can find outdoors. About any animal you can name he has lived with closely.
After grade school in Melissa, Texas he transferred to McKinney High School where he graduated with numerous honors, including a football scholarship to Texas A&M University. College years were extremely busy with academics. He received several awards including a National Science Foundation grant in biochemistry, and he managed to earn BS and DVM degrees in five years.
Following college was the U.S. Army at Ft. Dietrich, Maryland, part of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, doing research in pathology and microbiology related to biological warfare. While in the service he did postdoctoral studies at the National Institute of Health and the Armed Force Institute of Pathology. He chose to leave research and entered private practice in Ft. Worth for a year and a half and then moved to Mesquite, Texas and founded the Town East Animal Hospital.
Dr. Airhart is married and has four children and four grandchildren. He has been an active part of the community for many years. Hobbies and activities include sports, reading, flying, collecting cars, gardening, music, art, gourmet dining, church activities, politics and the American Heart Association
He has memberships in AVMA, Board of Directors for TVMA, DCVMA, Rotary and Texas A&M Association of Former Students
He thinks he has the best job in the world, getting to know many good people while trying to do good for friends, both human and animal. He comments "Here at the practice we see folks who care enough to spend time and money on animals. By definition that makes our clients caring, nice people. Where else could a person enjoy the challenge of diagnoses and treatment and experience the satisfaction of successful outcomes"?
Doctor Airhart will occasionally be out of the office due to continuing education commitments.
Talk to Dr. Airhart about his many and varied interests and you will realize he truly loves life.
My name is Jetta Airhart and I have been the office manager for Town East Animal Hospital since July 2006. I have been a client of Dr. Airhart's since 1995 and married him in 2011. I feel very fortunate to be able to work and learn from Dr. Airhart. I attend every veterinary continuing education seminar and meeting that I possibly can so that I can better serve our clients. We have regular office meetings where the doctor teaches us things like bacteriology, hematology, cardiology, radiology, dentistry and so much more. It really peaks my interest and makes learning so exciting! My background is in Title Insurance and also the Mortgage industry. My hobbies include creating stained glass art using copper foil, lead and mosaic techniques. I also have a passion for decorative room painting and faux finishing. I love boating, snorkeling in Cozumel and beautiful cars! I look forward to meeting you and your pets. Come see us soon!
Hi, it's my pleasure to introduce myself, I'm Jackie Ells, Receptionist and Veterinary Tech for Town East Animal Hospital. I was born and raised in Central Florida and moved to Texas in 2008. It has been my privilege to work for Dr. Jim Airhart, D.V.M. and Town East Animal Hospital since May of 2009.
In the mid 80's I was a Medical Assistant for a Health Maintenance Organization in Daytona Beach, Florida and then for the past 25 years I was an Office Manager, Executive Assistant and Marketing/Sales Coordinator for a 23 acre Continuing Care Retirement Community, which was established in 1954, and located in DeLand, Florida, which is my hometown. Our campus contained 54 Independent Apartments and more than 60 Private Homes, an Assisted Living Facility and a 130 bed Skilled Nursing Center.
On a personal note, I am a proud mom to Toby, a Terrier Mix, and Everest, a Chocolate Lab and in my spare time enjoy photography. For many years before moving to Texas I traveled a couple times a year touring the mountains and back roads of North Carolina with my camera. Currently, I'm slowly getting acquainted with my new home, "The Lone Star State" of Texas!
Thank you for this opportunity to get acquainted with you. I will be glad to be of service to you and your beloved pets the next time you visit Town East Animal Hospital.
I started working for Town East Animal Hospital in August of 2012. During this time, I learned there is always something to be grateful for. As long as you love your pets, they will always love you back.
I moved from Gainesville, Virginia right after graduating high school. I started working part time in a restaurant, but have always had an interest in animals. My main hobby is aquariums. I have a 120 gallon aquarium at home with 30 beautiful fish. I also have two awesome Boxer’s that I adopted when they were babies, two Cockatiel’s, two Ferret’s and two Australian Parakeet’s.
I am bilingual and able to help the Spanish speaking clients. It has been a great experience working for Dr. Airhart. This is one of the BEST jobs I have ever had!
Hi there! My name is Perlita Reyes. Since I can remember I have always wanted to work with animals whether they are small or large. My love for animals and love for science made it easy for me to choose my degree path. After 5 years of studies I graduated from Sam Houston State University in May 2013 with a Bachelors in Animal Science and minor in Biology. Upon graduating there was never a doubt in my mind that the veterinary field is where I wanted to be.
A little about me: On my downtime I love to workout, watch/go to Rodeos, or help my dad with our animals. We have two Quarter horses, a dark bay 16 year old mare named Lola and a 3 year old sorrel stallion named Navajo. Lola is usually the calm docile one while Navajo is the curious energetic little boy. It evens out because he brings out Lola’s playful rowdy side which makes it fun for me to work with them. We also have a handful of goats and chickens who are kept guarded by our beautiful white German Shepherd Goldie.
I cannot describe how excited and blessed I am to be a part of the Town East Animal Hospital family! I look forward to meeting you and your pets!!

So drop us a visit and become part of the Town East Animal Hospital family.
Hi! My name is Bonnie Ratliff and I’ve been volunteering since October 2014 but have recently gotten the wonderful opportunity to work with the Town East team as a receptionist. In my free time I enjoy volunteering with different charity organizations, being active in sports, and playing with my little Shih-Tzu mix fur baby, Aris. After I complete my undergraduate studies I hope to be accepted into Texas A&M’s Veterinary School (Gig ‘em Aggies!) with a focus in wildlife or zoo medicine. Being here at Town East has been a fantastic experience and I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to be around. Doctor Airhart is a great doctor and teacher, and I feel extremely lucky to be able to learn from him on a daily basis. This is such a great place and there is always a welcoming atmosphere. I look forward to meeting you and your pets!
Hi, my name is Christie Perkins. I have wanted to be a veterinarian since I was a little girl. Growing up I have spent all the time I could around animals, from riding horses with friends and raising goats in FFA to loving on my dogs at home. I went to Crandall High School and recently graduated from Tarleton State University with my Bachelors in Animal Science and minor in Biology. Since graduating, I have the privilege of working here at Town East Animal Hospital and have become a Certified Veterinary Assistant, Level 1. It has been a great learning experience! At home I have 3 sweet rescue dogs, a Catahoula hound, a Chiweenie, and an American Bulldog, as well as a small cat. In my spare time I love to fish, ride horses, and spend quality time with friends.
I look forward to getting to know and help you and your pets, and I’m extremely grateful for having the opportunity to work with such great people here at Town East Animal Hospital!
